Program Components
CSD of Ohio is also the home to Deaf BH Matters - Consumer Advocacy Network, a consumer-driven initiative grown from statewide Deaf Mental Health network in Ohio and moving toward national level to match counterparts such as National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA). Together with these organizations at multiple levels, Deaf BH Matters also explores collaboration efforts to advocate and provide support for deaf and hard of hearing consumers with any Behavioral Health issues. Deaf BH Matters will become a central part of CSD’s vBH services initiative.
Deaf Off Drugs & Alcohol Program
Provides system advocacy to improve alcohol and drug treatment services for the deaf and hard of hearing and also provides support to direct services. DODA is a program in partnership with CAM and the Wright State University’s SARDI program. All counselors, case managers and coordinators are fluent in ASL and knowledgeable about deaf culture. DODA has been innovative in its efforts to expand services through use of new videoconferencing technology and expanded resources in Ohio and nationally where consumers are able to form multiple support networks with consumer-driven programming.
Regional Infant Hearing Program (RIHP)
Provides education, support and advocacy to families who have infants identified as having a hearing loss. RIHP is offered from the Dayton office location -
- Is available at no cost to eligible families
- Provides objective information about services, resources and communication options
- Enhances language development and builds communication and pre-reading skills
- Works with the child and family in the home or at another site of the family's choosing
CSD of Ohio supports RIHP as a part of its partnership with DCRC in Dayton, and the RIHP is a joint project of the Ohio Department of Health and Help Me Grow.
Case Management Services
Provides practical and emotional support to deaf and hard of hearing people and their families. This program component is offered from the Dayton office location -
- General case management by appointment
- Individual and family counseling, sliding fee scale available
- Information and referral
Development Disabilities Services
Provides certified services to individuals with Development Disabilities under Individual Options (IO) and Level 1 Waivers. This program component is offered from the Dayton office location as a part of program transition from DCRC to CSD.
Other Program Components Offered Through DCRC at CSD's Dayton Office Location
- Springfield Satellite Office - Peer Case Management and Classes/Workshops for deaf adults. This program is funded by Springfield Foundation.
- Deaf Kids' Activities - Provides deaf children the opportunity to socialize with their peers without language or cultural barriers. This program includes monthly activities and summer camps.
- Ohio Benefits Bank - Provides services as part of its Peer Advocacy Program, including tax assistance and help with FAFSA forms to consumers.
- Domestic Violence Collaborative - Participates with Taskforce led by Wright State University in the development of a 3-year Planning Grant for Montgomery County.
